If you’ve stumbled on this page, chances
are that you live in Japan, you drive a car and you need to get it inspected
soon. This site was created to help
provide as much information about undergoing this testing procedure by yourself
in an effort to save money.
About User Shaken?
Shaken (車検) is the compulsory inspection which every vehicle in Japan must undertake every 2 years. In most cases the owner of the vehicle will entrust this procedure to a mechanic, car dealer, gas station or such. While taking your vehicle to one of these places will end up costing more, they will make sure that your car is in tip-top shape.
User Shaken (ユーザー車検) is when the owner undertakes the process of having their automobile inspected themselves, thus cutting out the middleman. I've started this site as a guide on how to pass shaken based on my own experiences. |
What are the benefits?
Doing the inspection process by yourself can potentially save you a decent amount of money. Based on my own experiences I've paid ¥54,323 to inspect my Nissan Bluebird (QG10) and ¥70,050 to inspect my Nissan Silvia (PS13.) These prices include gasoline and expressway fees to and from the inspection center.
I have heard of people paying anywhere from ¥90,000 to ¥300,000 when having the process done for them at a shop. So, the savings can be substantial. |
